Sparta Defender v0.11

My simple "space shooter" v0.8 surprized me few days ago by becoming "Sparta defender" v0.11 ! I have changed main character and enemies, added background and solved timeline issue.

You have to move mouse left and right and destroy all those Persians as soon as possible. At start they come to you slowly, but their speed is changing fast. You goal is to get 300 points.

Game has 56 lines of code. I have been using code I wrote earlier for main character and you can read that post here .

Download game swf and source code Sparta .

If you have any question about code, please feel free to ask.
Enjoy !

Mac Games and More

Some of the cool websites and places are present thanks to the few people who are big enthusiasts. This website is maintained by only one person, Cate Defrise.

This website, mac games is for everyone, including PC users that just want to browse or may be interested in switching to Mac. However the focus of this site is to recognize and publicize the work of independent Mac developers, the people who rarely get noticed. Mac Games and More gives support to creative minds of shareware developers.

Number of games and informations on this website grows every day. Here you will find several categories of Mac Games such as Action and Arcade and Shoot em up. There are also Puzzles for all ages, strategy and RPG games.

Some of the popular games here are Goalkeeper, Jets N Guns Gold, Mahjong Solitaire, Titan Attacks, Virtual Villagers, Game Of Risk and many others. Some newly games are Deluxe Poc Mon, Sudoku Potions, Animals of Mass Destruction, Mike's Marbles, Pageot, Nathan's Trains, Lock Desktop and many, many more.

The downloads are free to try and play. Some are free Mac games that require no payment at all. Others are shareware games, which are free games (demos) to try, then if you'd like to play their non-demo version, which is a full version, you can purchase their games for a small fee.

Visit mac games, browse, try out some of the games and support small developers. They make games from the heart, not for money.

While waiting for my cartoonist

While I'm still waiting for my cartoonist for Comics Album flash project,my progress in learning as3 should be rising, but instead, all I find time for is checking feeds for news stories around blogosphere, and nothing more.Knowing what's hot, as x convict Paris Hilton said, is ok, but will not get me anywhere.

In meantime, I have time for one more paid review. This is about The LB, or Life Blue company, which is one of not so many that offers complete solution for web business. This includes creative design, application development, search engine optimization, PPC, content development, hosting and other services. I must admit that this is really wide spectrum of services and it seems that anyone can find something for himself. However, I didn't use any of theirs services, so I can't really confirm they are good, but I did read theirs blog, which has some useful informations about SEO and stuff, but some texts are very boring, specially "custom application development". I would say that text should be titled: how not to say anything useful in 339 words.

Other than that, theirs portfolio is ok. One wedding shop, one wedding community, telecommunications company, etc. I like Bell Tower Technologies design they created. It is better than this blog's, that's for sure.

I must say something I noticed and it's a little strange. Life Blue offers SEO stuff for theirs clients and Internet marketing, and yet they think that paying a review to some blogger is a good promotion idea. This is, if not anything else, proving to me that bloggers have much more influence on online business than I thought before. This is off course good thing, but I wonder how long it will last.

Yeah, one more thing. My rank with ReviewMe.com has jumped. Now I have 2 stars and I'm really happy about it. From now on I can review blogs / websites / products up to $60. U-hu !

Free Flash FusionCharts

When I was offered to give review for Animated (and Free) flash charting service for blogs and be paid for it, I couldn't believe it. Why? Because I was already familiar with FusionCharts. In fact, I am using them for week or two now, I'm quite happy with them and wanted to post about it anyway.

FusionCharts is kind of flash project I should have done, just for myself, for fun. But, fortunately, I discovered they are already created. So, what is FusionChart Google Gadget? It's a easy to use tool that will help you build charts and graphs. You can build 2D and 3D charts, doughnut and pie charts (are you hungry yet?) and more. Platform for charts is based on Adobe Flash and you need at least Flash Player 6, or above. Flash is reading data from simple xml file. Data, which includes values, chart titles, colors are parsed and result is rendered and displayed with included animation.

FusionCharts Google Gadget can be used in your blogs, websites, Google Page Creator and more, but it is also fun to use it as a handy personal tool. I know I am having fun with it. You can't imagine amount of things that can be presented with charts. My recent experience shows everything can be charted. Cat food weekly consumption? No problem. Number of times word "bush" is mentioned on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart per episode? Sure. Just name it.

If you already know about FusionCharts, you probably agree with me and if you haven't heard about, you just lost your last excuse.

Did I mentioned it is free? Well it is, but this post is paid review.

Introducing Minalyzer Lite

Minalyzer Lite is a command line wrapper on top of Java Lucene, which is the best Open Source Search API available as of today. Because not every Web Server has Java server running, Chambal.com Inc have created this wrapper.

They also tried to hide all the API level details from the end user (webmaster or web programmer). i.e. they don't need to learn Java or Lucene. Minalyzer Lite can index the source data from web server by crawling it, or by directly indexing the HTML files from the file system or directly from the database for database driven web sites. The indexing code is a command line exec. The search utility is also a command line exec, which returns XML which can be parsed and displyed on any web site using any server side script which supports calling external programs (backtick in case of perl). Interested?

Here is a link which explains how Minalyzer Lite Search works - Demo .

You can also download latest version from Minalyzer Lite Site Search website, see examples and much more. Very important, you can try the product during beta phase, provide feedback and you can get one year upgrades absoultely FREE.

Having search utility on your website with Minalyzer Lite is done in 3 easy steps:
1.Index the Website
2.Upload the Index to your website (Optional)
3.Add search box to the website

This is paid review.

Never Thought About It

My first computer, if I can call it like that, was Commodore64. It was a long, long time ago in some distant galaxy... I don't know what in the world happend to that piece of electronic equipment.

After that, my attention was with desktop allways. I considered laptops are for people who travel a lot, for business junkies, but I must say that some of my friend were thinking about getting a laptop, as a alternative to desktop, for home use, which is still very strange idea to me.

However, I didn't know anything about laptops, about manufacturers and websites where I can find some informations. After little seaching this is first what came up. It's GetRank blog by Phil Wiley. This is actually very new blog, started in May, but I was surprised of amount of information there. I thougth, this guy must really love laptops, since he wrote so much useful informations about it. First, you can find review of Lenovo ThinkPad T61 laptop, which uses new Intel Centrino Duo platform (Santa Rosa). Lots of screenshots, full specs, design and build, informations about Input and Output Ports, special touch on screen and something about speakers, processor and performance. Offcourse, you can read about full benchmark results, and much, much more. And then, just when I thought that's all, new review of IBM ThinkPad T43. This was very good, because I could compare this two.

I'll probably stick with desktop, but if someone asks me about laptop, now I now where to go first.

More Easy Money

I wrote earlier about Kongregate flash games community in Easy Money post, but there is much more to tell about this, since this website is rapidly growing project.

There is 765 games online right now, and that number is changing fast. All games are in several categories: Action, Racing, Shooter, Sports, Puzzle and Strategy and More. Everyone can upload his flash game. Players decide about it, they rate it, comment it and so on. Kongregate is founded in 2006 and they want to become "leading online hub for players and game developers".

Few interesting ideas are present. First, while you play and rate games from other developers, those best games, highest rated games in every month are entering Contest and every month $1500 is rewarded. Second highest gets $1000, etc, 9th gets $250. That's not all. Weekly prize is $250 for first place, $150 for second and third. Not bad at all.

But wait, there is even more. While playing games, some games can get you cards. I got 2 cards for now, Ubuntu, the Elder and Juju, the Shaman. For those I had to play 4 different games, reach some levels and stuff. Cards will be used in game that is still in development, and that will be available on Kongregate when it is finished. I can imagine that this game will also have some heavy cash prizes.

Come and try it. I just wanted to see how is it and now I'm really hooked. What can I do? Some things are stronger than me :)
