Personalized News

It’s true, information is power. But searching for right information often is frustrating experience with no guarantees of success. Been there, done that. I would like to see some sort of personalized news service, where I can choose what kind of information I need to see. Also, it would be even better if news are user generated, which will give me all different kind of views on specific subject. If I could be able to edit and vote on that news, sky would be the limit. What? This already exists? You are kidding!

Thoof is a user generated news and information service that learns about what you are interested in and delivers news that you care about.Thoof is dedicated to anyone interested in news and information. Thoof's "personalization algorithm" means that users access news and information based on individual likes and preferences on the very first visit. Users become part of the Thoof democracy by proposing changes/additions to posted content; all users can vote on whether the change is beneficial. Personalized News in action!

Thoof is introducing tag streams, which allows you to choose specific news categories. I have created my flash, web, funny+video and technology tags and every time I open Thoof’s home page, only this categories of news are presented to me. You can add or delete any tag you want. Another nice feature is that when you scroll to the bottom of your page, “loading more stories” box appear and web page simply gets bigger for extra news. You can use this repeatedly as many times as you need. Like never ending news page. I don’t know how long your page can become. I tried to come to the end, but after few minutes I got tired. Maybe you can find out and let me know?

Introducing Page Rank 7

Recently with my Free PR5 links giveaway (http://flanture.blog.com/1982660) I started something good. My intention was to give something back to my precious readers and first thing that came to my mind was back links share.

However, completely randomly I visited Iwebtool and while playing around, I wanted to find out how I am helping to those links on my sidebar. I wanted to check how my blog helps WebAction, so I entered web address of that blog. It struck me when I realized that some of my pages have PR6 and this one page http://flanture.blog.com/1613467 from March 2007 has even PR7!

I suppose this shows that I got something valuable here. If anyone in interested in renting some text link space on my sidebar do email me at flanture [at] gmail [dot] com and we can discuss it. Thanks for your support.

Free Ebook Sample

This one is maybe old, but it is never to late for those who didn't heard about it, right?

Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices by Weyert de Boer, Scott Janousek and Richard Leggett is published on 25th December 2006. Free sample is available from publishers page: Sample . I already wrote about this book ( read post) as first one I decided to read about FlashLite.

However, I did find some nice projects already done, but even small games require a lot of time for development. Still, screensavers and small fun animations can be made very fast and easy and this is something I will try to do in following days.

Ball Movement

New month, new interesting stuff. I changed a little my previous Keys detection code. This time I wanted to see some movement. And It's quite easy. Code is absolutely same as ActionScript1.0.

Changes are: instead of mctxt now there is mcball. Also code is a bit different:

on(keyPress "<Left>")
{
_root.mcball._x-=10;
}
on(keyPress "<Right>")
{
_root.mcball._x+=10;
}
on(keyPress "<Up>")
{
_root.mcball._y-=10;
}
on(keyPress "<Down>")
{
_root.mcball._y+=10;
}

Document dimensions are same as in previous example, fps is 12. Test was ok on my phone and ball is moving. Monster is born :) Now I'll try to introduce gravity and speed variables. Will take code from some of my games and change it for Flash Lite.

Thanks to all who participated in my PR5 backlinks giveaway. I'm posting blogs on Sunday. I'm thinking about should I make this giveaway regular weekly thing?
