Second Chance - ASTRO

For a very long time, there was opinion between game developers that Flash Platform is not so good game development platform. Right now, with release of Flash Player 10, this might change just a little bit in another direction.

Flash Player 10, code name Astro is still in beta, but already brings some very interesting new features. Native 3D effects, available to anyone, is the first reason why we should pay attention. Enhanced drawing API for easy runtime drawing and visual performance improvements with extended hardware acceleration with GPU Compositing and GPU Blitting take advantage of new ActionScript3.0 Virtual Machine (AVM2) introduced back in Flash Player 9.

Don’t forget Dynamic Streaming that automatically adjust to changing network conditions, Dynamic Sound Generation and File Reference Runtime Access that let’s you load/save files from/to server without knowing server language or have access to server. This is not all! Check all new features at Adobe Labs, but from this summary you get my point when I say it is time for reconsideration.

Introducing Page Rank 7

Recently with my Free PR5 links giveaway (http://flanture.blog.com/1982660) I started something good. My intention was to give something back to my precious readers and first thing that came to my mind was back links share.

However, completely randomly I visited Iwebtool and while playing around, I wanted to find out how I am helping to those links on my sidebar. I wanted to check how my blog helps WebAction, so I entered web address of that blog. It struck me when I realized that some of my pages have PR6 and this one page http://flanture.blog.com/1613467 from March 2007 has even PR7!

I suppose this shows that I got something valuable here. If anyone in interested in renting some text link space on my sidebar do email me at flanture [at] gmail [dot] com and we can discuss it. Thanks for your support.

Flanture and Mobile

Recently I got myself new Nokia phone with built in Flash Lite Player and I like it a lot. Transfer of files from PC to mobile is easy as copy and paste, but it is also possible via Bluetooth or IC.

First search of Web for free Flash mobile content took me at Flashstocks, where I downloaded few screensavers and wallpapers. My favorite is Ball Clock. My excitement is increasing every day about Flash Lite and Flash Mobile content, so I decided to read a little about it and learn more. I found "Flash Applications for Mobile Devices" by Richard Leggett, Weyert de Boer and Scott Janousek with 537 pages and I downloaded source code from book's publisher website and now I'm ready to dive into Flash Lite.
At the moment I don't have great expectations, but to learn some new stuff and make few animations or applications for myself.

future is in past

Is this the future of Adobe? What secret conections are hidden in this name? What code Moxie hides? Maybe it's red color. Maybe it's pointed finger. But one thing is sure. You can't ignore Moxie. If you don't lose your vision looking at those spectar, you'll definetly lose your mind when you try it. Moxie that is. Prepare yourself, it's coming soon. And don't you forget : sugar free diet Moxie is also available. :)))

Anyway, I can hardly wait for it. In the meantime changed blog's header image. Also, from now I can present my offer to review YOUR site / blog / product / cat since this blog has good rankings and it has been accepted at Reviewme.com

adobe publisher verification

As I wrote earlier, I have installed and tested about 20+ apollo applications so far. I have noticed one thing. Every one of them had unverified publisher identity. Even Ascension that was written by Mike Chambers, Adobe guru.

Now, I tried to find informations about this verification, why none application has been verified and all of them have unrestricted access to users file system. This can be BIG threat to security. I can now see how much I haven't been careful, but I'm not sure that Adobe gave enough warning about this.

If anyone has some info about publisher verification system, please comment about it. Thank you.

Project Tracker v0.5

ApolloApps already have 23 Apollo applications, many of them free to use, and one of them is Project Tracker v0.5 by Jacob Wright. He and his company are somewhere from Utah, as google maps on site shows. Highly interactive. We are talking about withincode.com , but they are not yet open for business.

However, Project Tracker is built with Apollo and you must have runtime to see application. I'm writing about it, cause I noticed that this application is perfect for bloggers. If you wanna be pro blogger or you already are one, this is nice app to work with. You can enter your every blog as client, and than every future post is new project. You have timer, calendar built in, and stopwatch. Using project tracker in this way gives you advantage in organizing your posting schedules.

Every pro blogger wanna be can save some time with Project Tracker and it is only v0.5. Can't wait for v1.

to widget or not to widget

What about using a widget on your website/blog? First of let's see what is widget. Wikipedia defines widget or web widget as a portable chunk of code (flash or javascript) that can be installed and executed within separate HTML-based web page without additional compilation. Other terms are gadgets, badge, module, capsule, etc. widgetbox, widgets marketplace, says that widgets are every html code or flash that can be integrated in web page.

This definitions are quite loose. Everything can be a widget. What if I have flash based web site, and I insert some game on it, is that a widget? Or just another page? If my website is made in frames, than one frame is widget? In that case, every counter you entered on your website represents one widget. I can recognize twitter badge or "box" as widgets, but I'm still searching for right definition of it. Maybe flash widget should be known as fladgets. Cool name.

I can't imagine my blog without them. (Ok, I can, but this way is muuuuch better) So, how many of them is ok? If they have correct purpose within blog or website, if they display informations or give content that is useful or can contribute in better functionality of web site than using widget is fine. But if one puts x number of widgets on blog or website, just because they exist, he downgrades his blog.

To answer the question in my title: to widget, but properly.
