You can read more about prizes and specifications on their website. If you have plans to join or you need someone for your game dev team, comment here about it.

Flash games competitions are great way to improve your programming skills not only because of prizes but also participation itself brings very valuable thing - experience. Good prizes are motive enough just to try to make good game, but only with experience comes organization, planning, strategy as important pillars of success.

Flash games development competitions pop-up often all over the web and rivalry is huge issue. Often it's very hard for one-man-machine to win. Instead team of developers is better solution.

Popular flash games and sponsorship

Today I present MicroSheep and it's two versions very popular and highly contagiuos flash games Flugtag.

screenshot of popular micro olympics game

First of all this is great game. It has simple rules, but also main ingredient for successful game: you can't stop playing it. One version of this game is hosted on Kongregate in Sports category where it is first by number of plays more than double than second place game. On MicroSheep website there is slightly different version of same game. Actually, game is completely the same except for one image. I'll get back to that. This version is called Flugtag Tournament on website. Second version is Flugtag on Mars where main ship is spaceship and not plane like in first version. Power-ups are different and interesting.

Games on website have Red Bull logo inside game on lounch pad. This clearly indicate that this game is sponsored and with such big company behind it, it's no wonder that game is popular. Question here is this: what came first, game popularity or sponsorship?

Personalized News

It’s true, information is power. But searching for right information often is frustrating experience with no guarantees of success. Been there, done that. I would like to see some sort of personalized news service, where I can choose what kind of information I need to see. Also, it would be even better if news are user generated, which will give me all different kind of views on specific subject. If I could be able to edit and vote on that news, sky would be the limit. What? This already exists? You are kidding!

Thoof is a user generated news and information service that learns about what you are interested in and delivers news that you care about.Thoof is dedicated to anyone interested in news and information. Thoof's "personalization algorithm" means that users access news and information based on individual likes and preferences on the very first visit. Users become part of the Thoof democracy by proposing changes/additions to posted content; all users can vote on whether the change is beneficial. Personalized News in action!

Thoof is introducing tag streams, which allows you to choose specific news categories. I have created my flash, web, funny+video and technology tags and every time I open Thoof’s home page, only this categories of news are presented to me. You can add or delete any tag you want. Another nice feature is that when you scroll to the bottom of your page, “loading more stories” box appear and web page simply gets bigger for extra news. You can use this repeatedly as many times as you need. Like never ending news page. I don’t know how long your page can become. I tried to come to the end, but after few minutes I got tired. Maybe you can find out and let me know?

This post is sponsored.
